91.3 KXCI Community Radio celebrates 30 years of serving Tucson and Southern Arizona with creative, engaging and informative community based radio programming with a 30 Day Season of Special events and broadcast specials from Friday, November 22nd through Saturday December 21st.

Thirty years ago during the first Reagan administration, Tucson gained three independent media organizations that are still with us today- the Tucson Weekly, Access Tucson, and KXCI. Roger Greer, Frank Milan, and Paul Barrington, aka Paul Bear, began the groundwork to get on the airwaves in the mid seventies when they all agreed that local radio could be a whole lot better. They lamented the already fading Free Form FM Rock format and decided to raise money and file for a full power non commercial educational license. The FCC eventually granted The Foundation for Community Broadcasting a license and in November 1983 KXCI began testing the airwaves with The Big Broadcast- a two week history of sound which culminated with a couple of live bands performing in KXCI's downtown storefront location on the corner of Congress and 6th on December 6th.

Against all odds, and with tremendous community support we have become a strong nonprofit community radio station with plans for the future. We believe our 30th Anniversary is a great reason to celebrate with our listeners, members, business supporters, and community partners and we've planned a slate of activities on and off the air to give everyone a chance to partake. We're kicking things off on Friday, November 22nd at Monterey Court with Dave Riley & Bob Corritore and continue on till the Festival of Lights Parades concludes at Armory Park and the last Festivus Decoration is put away at El Casino Ball Room on Saturday, December 21st.
