Tucson's own Latin Jazz and Salsa band was born in the summer of 1992. Originally formed as an all-instrumental sextet by Homero Ceron, conguero Guillermo "Bubba" Fass, and bassist Rene Camacho, the group mainly played Latin Jazz. Later that summer, when vocalist Raphael Moreno joined the band Descarga's repertoire began to change: as Raphael puts it, "playing a little jazz and a little salsa." By the end of that year, with the addition of pianist Amilcar Guevara to the band's roster, Descarga became an orchestra, playing original arrangements and popular Latin Dance Music.
