Grite-Leon (Gree-teh Lay-own) comes from the phrase “demanding a lion to scream” when translated from Spanish. Grite Leon (Gree-teh Lay-own) has a sound as unique as the bands they emulate. Spearheaded by founding members Eric Asturias and Andy Coronado, the band is a labor of love created by the two in early 2006. It would be a fallacy to say they are driven by their passion, it is more like an instinct, within their blood to produce the music they want.
They have been described as sounding akin to Sublime, with Coronado lending guitar riffs similar to that of John Frusciante or Omar Rodriguez. Their sound is distinct, Asturias is a true poet, his lyrics reflecting experiences with women, drugs, and life. Many influences include but are not limited to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Mars Volta, Deftones, Carlos Santana, and Jimi Hendrix to name a few. Everyone in the band comes from varied musical backgrounds that when blended together creates something unique. Grite-Leon has been best described as a Latin Progressive Rock, however that does not do justice. Grite-Leon is like the theme park of bands. Every song is its own ride and has its own style.
