I was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Africa, raised in poverty. I have made my way to US, and today I am a US citizen. My late father and mother descended from families where music is the center of everything; it is our family tradition. Through music and dance we celebrate birth and death, comfort the living ones, resolve conflicts, and share their knowledge and love. My parents supported me in my education while they told me, “Music is our tradition. The time will come when you will get into it and not even known how it happened.” After many years of competing in cross country and marathon, and even now being a nursing student, music, dance and singing is the center of my life. I have been influenced by the zouglou music and have always loved the reggae music (Alpha Blondy). I love it even more now that I speak English and able to understand the late Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, and A Jah Man’s messages. ..
