Neon Prophet has been a reggae institution here in Tucson for the last 27 yrs. and still going strong.
The group plays a unique blend of reggae music ranging from sweet harmony singing to Dancehall deejaying. Keeping up with the current trends while remaining true to the roots has kept their audiances coming back for more, year after year.
Over the years players have come and gone but the core members of David Dean- Vocals and Bass, Jamie Cirrito-Bass and Vocals and Plato T Jones-Percussion, have remained constant. In addition the group presently includes Tony Falcon-Guitar, Mohawk and vocals, Scott Anderson-Keyboards and Vocals and Chip Ritter-Drums .
Geographically the group represents a broad spectrum. Florida, New York , Chicago, England, Indiana and Tucson respectively.
Their range of musical styles and influences are broad as well. From Roots Reggae to Dancehall, Hiphop to Latin with a smattering of Soul, rock and Jazz thrown in for good measure. The group has opened for just about everybody in the business. The late Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff, Black Uhuru, Toots and the Maytels,The Wailing Souls, Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Third World, Maxi Priest, Inner Circle, Mighty Diamonds, The Itals, Yellowman, Judy Mowatt, and even Rick James -the list goes on and on.
As a back up band the group has had the privilege of working with Sugar Minott, The Meditations and The Late Mikey Dread as well as countless sit-ins by the likes of Jr Reid, Joe Higgs, Frankie Paul, Drummie Zeb from Aswad, Echo Minott , Ras Michael and even Big Daddy Kane, Greg Allman and Chris Penn.
To date the group has put out two CDs, The self titled Neon Prophet and Reggae Party-mixed by the mighty Barry Ohare at Grove Studio in Oho Rios Jamaica and have consistently won The Tammies-Best Reggae award. See you at the next show!
